Joseph Chiombola is a distinguished advocate of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania, High Court, and subordinate courts, with 15 years of specialized experience in defending the land and natural resource rights of small-scale producers, particularly women in peri-urban and rural areas. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania and is currently pursuing a Master of Research and Public Policy at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Before joining Landesa, Joseph was a key figure at HAKIARDHI, Tanzania’s leading land rights organization. There, he focused on land-related legal reforms, capacity building, research, legal advice and counseling, and spearheaded programmatic interventions. His notable achievements include coordinating the Tanzania Land Alliance (TALA) for five years, where he played a pivotal role in formally registering the alliance, securing strategic collaborations with regional partners, and achieving membership with the International Land Coalition (ILC).
In his current role as a Policy and Law Expert for Landesa’s Africa Region, Joseph is committed to enhancing policy and legal frameworks to strengthen tenure rights for rural communities. His work involves providing expert analysis and opinions to support informed decision-making in policy and law development across the continent.
